Predator

The history of the Predator is an interesting one. Back when mid travel was the norm and Subaru's and rotary engines ruled the dunes the Predator was born. Designed with performance, safety and comfort in mind, it was the first production car to come with a V8, the tallest paddle tires made, four corner bypass shocks and 3 full size seats in the rear STANDARD. At the time we were scoffed at for these things but as the sport has changed these things have become common place in the industry.

The chassis was designed with 2" diameter tubing for a couple of reasons. First, we wanted to set ourselves apart from the rest. Since most of the cars at the time were a version of one another or at least looked similar we wanted to be sure that we didn't follow the pack. With 2" tubing and a unique design we could be sure that when our car drove by everyone would know it was a Predator. Second, the larger the diameter of a given tube the stronger it becomes. A 2" tube can be as much as .025 thinner wall thickness and still be just as strong as 1.5" tubing with a thicker wall. For this reason we were able to create a chassis that has the same or more strength than a comparable chassis with smaller tubing and all without gaining weight. A common misconception is that the Predator is heavy due to the visual size of the tubing but this is not true. A Subaru powered car can weigh 1,800 lbs and V8 cars weigh between 2,000 lbs and 2,400 lbs which is typical for most long travel cars today. The chassis has many different wall thickness tubing in it depending on the need. Most of the passenger compartment is .095 wall while some of the motor and shock mounts are thicker. Areas that are not as structurally important are .083 or .065. All suspension components are .120. With safety as a major factor in the design of the car, the Predator has an A, B and C pillar in its cage as well as X bracing in the roof, floor and rear of the cage STANDARD. Safety should never be compromised in a car and with the standard tubing and structure in a Predator you can be sure that you are in one of the safest cars built.

Most people describe their cars as a 5 Seater but are they really? The Predator has 3 full size seats in the rear so that 3 of your largest friends can ride in the rear comfortably. This is unique among sand cars since most use a bench seat in the rear of a four seat car and call it a five seater. We were able to accomplish this by widening the cab area of the chassis to fit the seats but at the same time not widening the car. The Predator is the same width as most long travel cars with 22" of travel or more.

Performance was another thing taken very serious when we designed the Predator. With proper suspension geometry and a center of gravity farther forward than most long travel cars the Predator is a true duner that can run the whoops and jump as well. You can dune at full throttle speeds, controllably sliding the rear of the car in and out of turns without ever using a turning brake. Front end "push" is not an issue even when you are on the gas with a V 8 due to the suspension design, weight distribution of the passenger compartment and drive train locations. The Predator is at home in the whoops and jumps as well. Our years of experience with this car has allowed us to perfect the shock systems to the point where every car we build comes with a tuned system which needs little to no adjustments to be set up perfectly for you. This set up rides smooth through 2 foot whoops on sand highway and still lands firmly from jumps as well. The strength of the chassis really shines here since the car was built to take the abuse; you can feel comfortable running whoops for days on end with out abusing the car.

Having a car that is user friendly or easy to work on was a consideration for us as well. Every Predator chassis has every tab or mount on it for every option that we offer whether the car was built with them or not. For instance, a car without power steering or bypass shocks could have these things bolted on next year without any welding involved making it easy to upgrade later. The motor and trans mounting is designed in a way that allows for any motor or transmission to be installed in the car with only the correct adaptor plates needed. Also, all transmissions can be removed from the car from the bottom without removing the engine for easy maintenance!

With our design parameters of performance, safety and comfort you can rest assured that you Predator will handle well, keep your family and friends safe while in comfort for many years to come.

Features

Aluminum

Although a full body is standard on complete cars a rear wing with or without storage or a custom scoop, dash, hood or custom consol are options

Stereo Systems

From mild to wild we can set your car up with a stereo that will fit your needs as well as equip it with satellite radio for unlimited stations no matter where you are in the dunes or desert

Sway Bar

A anti sway bar is a very popular option which eliminates most of the body roll associated with long travel cars and lets you take corners at much higher speeds under control

Radios and Intercoms

PCI race radios let you talk to your friends in other cars or back to camp. Intercom systems from 2 to 5 persons can limit outside noises while letting you talk at ease with all of you passengers as you drive

Mid-Board Style 6 Piston Rear Hubs

A mid board style hub will allow you to run another 2 inches of travel in the rear since it positions the CV farther away from the trans and allows for longer axles which in turn gives lower CV angles. Inboard hubs are reliable up to 650 hp. If you are planning on running more power than that then a Mid Board style hub is recommended. They also come with 6 piston calipers for improved stopping power.

2" Hollow Front Spindle

2" hollow spindles are the strongest system you can run in the sand. Running a 2" spindle requires a larger hub with 4 piston calipers as well

2.5" Howe Power Rack

The standard Charlyn power steering system is great for the sand and desert but if you plan on a street legal car or running on hard pack fire roads then you may want to have the self centering ability of a power rack. This will keep the car from floating or following the grooves in the roads at high speeds and make the car much more stable

Luggage Rack

Luggage racks of all shapes and sizes can be built for the car as you would like

Light Bar

Light bars are becoming more and more popular with our night time duners. 6" Pro Comp lights all the way up to 9" Hella HIDs can be run on your custom light bar.

Engines

We have had experience with every known motor combination over the years but the most popular these days would have to be the LS1. All variations of this motor are available to you from 430hp to 510hp LS1s to 500hp to 558hp LS2s and the new LS7 as well. For those with the need for speed we can run twin turbo or supercharged engines from 700hp to 1200hp if you like.

Transmissions

Any transmission is possible in the chassis but the most popular options here would be the Mendeola 2D, S4 and HD. Also, Fortin wide gear 4 speed or 5 speed sequential. The Albins and the Fields automatic are available as well.

Interior

Seats come in any color you would like but if you would like to step it up a bit we can carpet the inside of the side panels or we can completely upholster the inside of the car with graphics and storage pockets anywhere you would like.

Paint

The sky is the limit here but any style of paint, graphic, or air brushing is available to you from qualified painters with experience in each area to give you the perfect look.

Chrome

Chroming the suspension components is a very popular option but we can go as far as you like with this by chroming everything in site if you like.

CV and Axle

930 CVs are standard and are good up to 550hp in our chassis but if you would like more then 934 CVs and axles are available for any trans and hub combination.

Wheels and Tires

15" Billet Douglas Beadlocks with triple razors and 33 Sandblasters are standard but if you would like 16" or 17" wheels and tires or an off road set we can accommodate that too.

Seat

Beard Super seats in any style other than leather are standard but if you would like custom materials or a wider seat or another style then they are available too.
